Convener David Parker in EU Settlement Scheme appeal

A final appeal has been issued to EU nationals living in the Scottish Borders who have yet to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme for the right to continue to live and work here after 30 June

Latest data shows that almost 2.8k Borderers originally from EU/EEA countries have applied to the free UK Government scheme, but with an estimated population of 3k EU nationals in the area around 200 are now running out of time to make their application.

Don't delay

If you are still to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme, please do not delay. Apply now through the UK Government website and, if you need any support, please contact the local Citizens Advice Bureau, which has staff available to help guide you through the process.

For support from one of the CAB’s EU Settlement Scheme Advisers email EUCitizens@peeblescab.casonline.org.uk or phone 07500 973652.

Councillor David Parker, Convener

“The deadline for applications to the EU Settlement Scheme is 30 June, so I urge any EU national who is living in the Borders and wishes to remain here to complete their application as soon as possible.

“It is only by applying through this scheme that you can stay and work here, so it really is essential if you plan to continue to call the Borders home. It is also important to remember that no matter how long you have been here, you still need to apply.

“We can all play our part in this final push to ensure that all EU nationals are aware of the requirement to apply to the Settlement Scheme. To employers, I urge you to make sure that you have checked with any employees who are EU nationals that they have applied. To the families, friends and neighbours of EU nationals, please ask if they have applied, and if they are unsure or need any assistance, please point them in the direction of the Citizens Advice Bureau.

“This really is the last chance to apply. The Borders has become home to many thousands of EU nationals and they play a crucial role in our communities, in our businesses and in our lives as friends, neighbours and family. The message is clear – we want you to stay.”
