Youth Ambassadors for Sustainability

Young people make Promise to the Planet to help the climate emergency

As part of Global Day for Climate Action 19 March 2021, the Scottish Borders’ Youth Ambassadors for Sustainability launch their #OurPromiseToThePlanet campaign for the coming year.

The group of young people come from across the Scottish Borders and represent young people from all five area partnerships. They all have an interest in the climate emergency, ensuring young people’s voices are heard on these issues, and finding ways to educate and engage the community in tackling climate change.

They have each made a promise to take a minimum of one action during 2021 that will contribute to tackling climate change and as part of their campaign, have issued a challenge to people across the Borders, individual, communities, businesses and organisations, to do the same.

In the lead up to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Glasgow in November, the Ambassadors will also be taking small actions each month to celebrate different awareness days that relate to climate change and sustainability such as Earth Day on 22 April and World Ocean Day on 8 June.

So whether you decide to grow your own veg or help clean up a river, change your tea bags to more sustainable ones or stop buying fast fashion, support a wildlife cause or plant a tree, all these small things add up and make a huge difference in supporting our land, wildlife, waters, and each other, across the planet and back home in our own communities.

We also want people to join in by sharing photographs or short video clips about what they are going to do in 2021 to help save the planet using the hashtag #OurPromiseToThePlanet.

These can be shared to the Scottish Borders Youth Voice Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram and we would encourage you to use our social media frame.
