How to apply for EMA
To apply for EMA you will need to complete an application form. These forms can be collected from:
- your school
- your Activity Agreement support worker
- any Scottish Borders Council Contact Centre
- direct from the Education Maintenance Allowance Team
Read the guidance notes which explain what you need to tell us and the documents which we require.
Send the completed form to us. Remember to sign your application and make sure the correct postage is paid. Failure to provide the necessary documents will delay payment of your education maintenance allowance.
Cut-off dates 2017/18
Please note that the final date for all completed education maintenance allowance application forms is 31 March 2018. No application will be accepted or processed after this date.
If you are due to receive education maintenance allowance from August 2017, your application must be received by 30 September 2017. Applications received after 30 September 2017 will not be backdated and education maintenance allowance payments will start from the week the application is received.
If you are due to receive education maintenance allowance from January 2018 your application must be received by 28 February 2018. Applications received after 28 February 2018 will not be backdated and education maintenance allowance payments will start from the week your application is received by us.
