Winter and gritting FAQs

Safer, resilient communities

We aim to provide winter services to all areas of our adopted road, pavement and car park network, based on our winter service plan, but would encourage you to play #yourpart, and help where and when you can.

Getting out and about

We realise that you may have a need to get out and about, but before you do you should:

  • assess the current weather conditions
  • carefully consider whether your journey is necessary and safe
  • if it’s not safe for you to go out ask a family member, friend or neighbour for help

If you still need help you can use our online form to find out if we can help you. This is generally where:

  • you’re running out of food
  • running low on oil for heating
  • your gas or electric key card has run out
  • have an urgent medical concern

Can I volunteer to help my local community?

Yes, there is a lot that members of the public can do to help their communities.

You can check our Resilient Communities webpage for information on how to get involved.
