Day opportunities for older people

Review of day opportunities for older people - update

The review of daytime opportunities for older adults and those with complex care needs in the Eildon locality has now concluded. The findings highlighted several key issues, including:

  • gaps in social support for older adults requiring personal care
  • difficulties in accessing information about available services
  • transportation barriers

The review also noted a high uptake of respite support through Self-Directed Support, which has helped to meet some of the local needs.

To address these challenges, a range of options were considered. A report was then presented to the Integration Joint Board on 16 July where the recommendations were approved.

As a result, the Teviot Day Service is now accepting referrals for clients from the Eildon locality. Referrals can also be made from Tweeddale, Cheviot and Berwickshire while provision in these areas is reviewed. Additionally, the Shared Lives programme will be used to support older adults with higher dependency care needs across Eildon and the wider Borders.

Tweeddale, Cheviot and Berwickshire consultation—extended

The consultation to assess the need, and appropriate day supports in the Tweeddale, Cheviot and Berwickshire localities has been extended. Thank you to everyone who took part in the previous survey—your feedback is appreciated. If you haven't already shared your views, the new closing date is 5 April 2026.

The aim is to gather feedback from individuals, communities and key stakeholders to better understand current needs and help shape service provision across the three areas. It also reflects the Health and Social Care Partnership’s commitment to community-led approaches and collaborative working, ensuring services are co-designed to meet local priorities and deliver meaningful support.

You can give your feedback through our online consultation until 5 April. If you have any queries, advice and information are available at locality What Matters Hubs.

Paper copies of the survey are available by emailing: socialworkconsultation@scotborders.gov.uk

Please note the review does not include services for older adults with learning disabilities.
