Property checks

The form will provide us with a comprehensive understanding of your property, and help to speed up the inspection.

The form asks some general questions about your property and how it’s accessed, but there are some things you need to think about before you complete it.

Interlinked fire, smoke and heat alarms and carbon monoxide detectors

One of the most important things to consider is whether you meet the new Scottish Government regulations around interlinked fire, smoke and heat alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

If you don’t already have them installed, we’ll ask you to do this and confirm that you have as soon as possible, but it won’t stop you being approved.

You can find information about this on the Scottish Government website.

Gas

If there’s a gas supply to the property, look out any certificates or documentation dated within the last year and take a photo of them. This shows us that the gas supply is well maintained.

You’ll be able to upload them to the form for us to see before we come to visit.

Electricity

If your guests are living with you, or in a second home you own, you may not have any electrical certificates. But if you’ve had any electrical work done in the last year, look out your certificates and take a photo to upload with the form.

Private water supplies

If the property has a private water supply it’s really important that it’s safe for your guests. You’ll need to be able to confirm when the water was last sampled, if it passed the tests, and if not what you’ve done about it.
