Request or Question
I write to seek information on the provision and insurance of play equipment in primary school playgrounds. I am interested to know: 1. who has provided funding for or purchased equipment installed in playgrounds and;
2. who has then insured it. With regards to insurance I would be keen to understand if the council has insurance for equipment in schools such as:
3. Melrose Primary who have had new equipment placed this year and in;
4. Lauder Primary who have climbing equipment in place too.
5. Earlston, with their new development, may have play equipment recently installed and so I am interested to know details surrounding this.
Response
1. Funding for the installation at Melrose Primary School was provided by the Education Capitol Block spend. Outdoor learning projects at Halyrude Peebles, Coldstream and Duns Primary Schools have all been funded by the Education Capitol Block. Scottish Borders Council?s Berwickshire Neighbourhood Support Fund has provided grants to: 2022/2023- Coldingham Primary PFA- 5,000.00---- Purchase of Loose Parts store and play equipment 2023/2024- Friends of Ayton Primary School- 5,000.00 ----- PFA Trim Trail Fund 2024/25- Friends of Coldstream Primary School- 4,500.00--- Trim Trail
2. The Council has Public Liability cover in place for our legal liabilities in respect of damages/injury arising from negligence on the part of the Council, however we are self-insured for the playground equipment itself in terms of loss/damage. would be keen to understand 3. Melrose Primary who have had new equipment placed this year and in; refer to Q2
4. Lauder Primary who have climbing equipment in place too. Refer to Q2
5. Earlston, with their new development, may have play equipment recently installed and so I am interested to know details surrounding this. A new public play park is planned adjacent to Earlston Primary School grounds; this is programmed for delivery in 2025/26 and will be installed/managed as part of our network of Public Play Facilities
