We have approx. 120 users of MS Copilot, which uses AI technologies. In addition, individuals are enabled to use generative AI tools in undertaking their duties, following guidelines on responsible use.
Whilst it is understood that AI technologies do have an energy demand, it is also likely that the overall energy used by Scottish Borders Council to complete tasks and other work undertaken using AI assistance will be lower. Further environmental impacts will be required as the use of AI increases and further global data is available on the actual carbon footprint of different AI technologies.
Although not specific to Education, here are the key sustainability-related policies and strategies from Scottish Borders Council. Council policy/strategy Our commitment | Net Zero and Climate Change | Scottish Borders Council The Council Plan outlines six strategic outcomes, one of which is a ?Clean, green future?.
