Request or Question
I am writing as a deeply concerned parent in light of the increasing reports of individuals filming children in and around schools and playparks. I would be grateful if you could confirm whether any such incidents have been formally raised within the Borders Council area, and if so, how many have been reported by the various organisations operating under the Council?s authority.
In particular, I would like to understand:
Whether specific actions are being taken to address this issue, If parents have been notified or encouraged to remain vigilant, and Whether Police Scotland or local community officers have implemented any preventative or protective measures.
Given the nature of the concern, I would greatly appreciate your guidance on how this matter is being managed and reassured by any steps that are already in place to protect children in our communities.
Response
Parent Notifications: While there is no specific information on notifications about filming incidents, the council emphasizes the importance of community vigilance and encourages parents to report any concerns about child safety.
Preventative Measures by Police Scotland: Police Scotland works closely with the Scottish Borders Council to ensure the safety of children.
They provide guidance on public safety and are involved in community policing efforts.
If a school was to see someone behaving inappropriately, they would address the person directly and phone the police to alert them with any information they have on the individual.
In any incidence where this has happened a school would take advice from the police regarding any communication required to parents to remain vigilant.
Additionally, any school gates are closed during the school day to discourage people coming into the school grounds and primary schools have playground assistants outside to help keep the children safe.
