- You may be able to get Best Start Foods for your child even if you cannot get certain benefits because of your immigration status. This is also called having no access to public funds
- Who qualifies
- You can get Best Start Foods if you meet all these conditions: You’re responsible for at least one child under 3 (not including pregnancies), Your family income is £2,121.02 or less a month after tax for a couple or £1,792.71 or less a month after tax for a single adult, You’re not able to claim public funds either because of your immigration status or because you do not have an immigration status, You have an address in Scotland.

- You may need to provide different documents depending on your situation. Social Security Scotland will usually ask for documents to show you and your child’s details, your immigration status and your family income. Documents may include: a letter from the Home Office showing your immigration status and the members of your family, A Biometric Residence permit, Bank statements showing your family income, A letter from a supporting organisation, Your child’s passport or birth certificate, Your or your child’s Application Registration Card (ARC) that says you are ‘Forbidden from taking employment’.
