Churchyard Transfer 15th September 1925 Minute of Special Meeting of Smailholm Parish Council
At the request of the Council, the Rev W L Sime attended the meeting and gave his assistance with regard to the transfer of local churchyard to the Council. He pointed out that by now Act he was intended to continue to act in an advisory capacity with the Council and suggested that Mr Brown, Estate Clerk be asked to make out a plan of the churchyard from an old map which Mr Sime had in his possession and which he was willing to lend for the purpose.

It was likewise mentioned that Mr Kinghorn was willing to continue as gravedigger, cut grass twice a year, keeps walks and ivy on the church ..

After Mr Sime had withdrawn from the meeting, the Council agreed to accept the proposals already mentioned and the clerk was instructed to intimate this decision to Mr Sime at the same time asking this gentleman to continue to allocate graves subject to the Council s approval.

Mr Hutchison presented his report . and intimated that two copies of plan of new portion of ground to be laid out were being prepared, one being for the use of the Clerk to the Parish Council and the other for the use of the gravedigger

An application by the Clerk for remuneration of new duties imposed on him by the taking over of the churchyard by the Council was discussed in private and it was agreed to have the matter brought forward again at a more fully attended meeting
