Scottish Borders continues its move to become the Centre of Excellence for digital learning

Published: 8th November 2022

We continue to build on the success of the Inspire Learning Programme with the launch of Inspire Academy

In 2022 we were awarded Apple Professional Learning Provider (APLP) status from global technology giants, Apple. The accreditation was attained as a result of our sector-leading Inspire Learning programme, a major step in the launch of Inspire Academy, which aims to provide support to other education technology projects and local authorities across Scotland, the UK and beyond.

The Inspire Learning Programme has hosted and participated in events with key partners, free of charge, and shared learning and experience around strategic education transformation projects.  Inspire Academy will now enable us to provide services such as professional learning to external parties, and expand the support and range of training on offer to generate additional income for us.

The income generated through Inspire Academy will be re-invested in the Inspire Learning Programme for the benefit of teachers and young people in the Scottish Borders.

Councillor Leagh Douglas, Executive Member for Education and Lifelong Learning

“The increasing importance of the role of technology in education is clear at all levels, and the demand for accredited professional learning to support educators and learners is forecast to increase over the coming years, to support education through building enhanced digital skills and teaching.

“Scottish Borders, as one of only two Apple Professional Learning Providers in the UK, and the only local authority with this accreditation, is in a unique position to deliver this learning.

“This is a further example of the Scottish Borders being at the forefront of digital learning and demonstrates our commitment to making the Scottish Borders the best place in the world to teach and learn.”

Lesley Munro, Director Education and Lifelong Learning

“The Council has built outstanding experience and skills to share and holds a unique accreditation position to support it in doing so.  Together these enable the Council to offer a valuable set of services to others, supporting them in their digital education journeys and in turn providing additional options for continued investment in our Borders teachers and young people.”

Inspire Academy offers the Borders an opportunity to take a key role in influencing the future development and delivery of digital education across Scotland, the UK and further afield.
