Traffic lights installed on A72 between Nutwood and Dirtpot Corner

Published: 25th April 2022

Traffic lights have been installed along a stretch of the A72 between Nutwood and Dirtpot Corner due to safety concerns regarding the condition of some sections of the masonry roadside wall.

Temporary traffic lights to allow for repair work

The traffic lights will be in place north of Nutwood carpark and before Dirtport corner to allow essential repair work to the roadside wall to be undertaken.

A recent inspection of the wall highlighted several areas across a 200 metre section that are in poor condition and in need of repair.

Given the size and scale of the works required and the close proximity to the River Tweed, it is likely that the current traffic management arrangements will remain in place until mid-summer.

Design and preparation work for the necessary repairs is currently being undertaken with a view to starting site works as soon as possible.

The identified works are not in relation to the new masonry wall installed by the Council at Dirtpot Corner in recent years.

We would like to apologise for any disruption and inconvenience caused and thank those affected for their patience and understanding whilst these essential repair works are carried out.
