Consultation on kerbside waste and recycling services launched

Bins are emptied in to a bin lorry

We are seeking feedback from Borderers to find out what they think about our current kerbside waste and recycling services and better understand how the public deals with their household waste.

We collect waste and recycling from over 59,000 households, with over 50,000 tonnes of waste collected last year. More than half of all waste is recycled, and less than one per cent goes to landfill.

Have your say

The consultation is being run in an effort to gather information around the effectiveness of our kerbside collections and inform any improvements and changes to the delivery of these services.

We are encouraging households from right across the Borders whether they are avid recyclers or not to engage with the consultation and provide some information around their habits when it comes to disposing of waste and recycling.

The public consultation is now live and will be open to feedback until Tuesday 5 April.

Reducing environmental impact

As set out in our Climate Change Route Map last year, we are committed to reducing its impact on the environment by providing services that better serves residents in the region and is fit for the future.

Councillor Gordon Edgar, Executive Member for Infrastructure, Travel and Transport

“Ensuring our recycling and waste services are meeting the needs of residents is extremely important so we can fulfil our commitment to become a greener and more sustainable Council.

“By better understanding the habits of our residents we can shape and improve our waste and recycling services based on the feedback we receive.

“It only takes a few minutes to complete the survey and I’d encourage as many people as possible to submit their views to help us on our journey to reducing our carbon emissions and becoming more responsible for what does and doesn’t end up in our bins or in landfill.”
