The First Minister has announced changes to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions from Friday 16 April.

People will be allowed to meet in groups of up to six adults from six households in outdoor settings (the current limit is four people from two households).

You will also be able to travel across Scotland, as long as you do not stay overnight.

More changes from 26 April

Further changes are expected to come into effect from 26 April, with people in Scotland being able to travel to England and Wales.

From this date, all of Scotland is expected to move to Level 3 from Level 4 in the COVID-19 protection system.

This will see the hospitality sector reopen outdoors for the service of alcohol, and open indoors for non-alcohol service. Shops will be able to operate and things like gyms and swimming pools can open again.

Joint Director of Public Health, Dr Tim Paterson

"From Friday you can meet with up to six people from six different households and travel across Scotland. This will allow people to meet up with loved ones who they have not seen for some time. I'm sure these changes will help with people's mental health.

“It is hoped that people in Scotland will be able to travel anywhere across Britain from 26 April. However, until this date, you are only permitted to cross the border for essential purposes and this does not include leisure, non-essential shopping, visiting hospitality premises or staying in tourist accommodation.

"Please remain patient and stick with the rules in order to continue protecting each other and our local health and social care services. As restrictions begin to ease further, even if you have received one or both doses of the COVID-19 vaccination, please act responsibly when out and about and remember the FACTS advice.”
