Work to start on new Early Years Centre at Peebles primary school

Published: 16th October 2019

Work on a new Early Years Centre at Priorsford Primary School in Peebles will start this month as part of our Early Years expansion programme.

Work will start on the site during the October break. The new nursery will open in August 2020.

The new facility will support the delivery of the Scottish Government’s commitment to increase provision of free early learning and childcare to 1140 hours and will cater for up to 120 children, offering year round, extended hours.

Impact on school

Whilst construction work will be ongoing throughout the school year, disruption will be kept to a minimum. Due to the works parents should note that there will be no parking at the school and therefore alternative arrangements to pick-up and drop-off will need to be considered.

An information pack is available for parents to find out more about the new facility, and the construction plans.

The creation of the new Priorsford facility, which has been designed by our in-house architects, follows a series of works to 15 schools last summer - an investment of over £4million.

Councillor Carol Hamilton, Executive Member for Children and Young People

“Over recent years the Council has delivered a number of new schools and Early Years facilities, as well as substantial improvements to existing schools and nurseries.

“Our ongoing investment in these areas, and in programmes such as Inspire Learning, reflects our commitment to ensuring that our young people get the best possible opportunities to learn and in the highest quality settings.”
