Part of a first floor building in Park Street, has collapsed onto the road.
No-one was injured as a result of the incident on Sunday morning.
Following an inspection of the property on Monday the Council has instructed a local contractor to undertake immediate works to make the building safe.
Pedestrian access along Park Street will be restored once scaffolding is in place - expected to be Monday evening. Channel Street can be accessed by pedestrians.
Both streets will however be closed to vehicles until the works are complete.
