Teviot and Liddesdale residents are being invited to take part in a programme of free activities being provided throughout the summer for children, young people and families.
The Hawick Summer Programme 2019 will take place between Tuesday 2 July and Friday 16 August and has been organised in partnership by:
- our Community Learning and Development (CLD) team
- NHS Borders
- Burnfoot Community School and Early Years Centre
- Burnfoot Community Futures
- Live Borders
- Escape Youth Café
- Police Scotland
- Play Borders
The programme is part of the Healthy Hawick initiative which aims to promote physical activity as well as healthy eating. Partners have also been keen to take a joined-up approach with the shared vision of working together to encourage families and young people to take part.
Activities in Healthy Hawick Summer Programme
The diverse range of activities on offer includes:
- a gardening, growing and cooking project
- library crafts
- a music project
There will also be family events organised by the CLD team and physical activity sessions from Live Borders.
Younger family members can enjoy tea and toast, stay and play and mini-kickers at the Early Years Centre while an intergenerational fashion project will take place weekly and a picnic in the park with family games will be held every Friday.
Allyson McCollam, Associate Director of Public Health
“This comprehensive and well thought-out programme builds on the success of last year’s Burnfit Summer event. The programme aims to provide a mixture of activities ranging from children only events through to family learning and fun together. There is also the opportunity to have a meal at no cost, which families should find both enjoyable and nutritious.
“As they did last summer, we would encourage the local Hawick community to enter into the spirit of the occasion and make the most of everything that is on offer. Come along and find out for yourself!”
