Building on the success of a similar event earlier in the year, staff from our Local Area Co-ordination Mental Health Team are working on a Curry and a Chaat event.
The curry night initiative was developed by the Mental Health Foundation as a way of giving people the chance to get together with friends, enjoy a delicious meal and share the vision of a world with good mental health in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues generally and promote what can be done to keep mentally well.
The team is working with CAFÉ U in Kelso to run this event. It will be held on 25 October from 6pm to 8pm.
Entry on the evening is by donation and bookings can be made via the CAFÉ U Facebook page
The event is open to anyone in Kelso and the wider community who would like to:
- meet people who may be experiencing similar issues relating to mental health
- hear more about how people are feeling
- find out what services are available locally
- show support for people with mental health issues
World Mental Health Day 10 October
The Kelso event is being held as part of a campaign to support World Mental Health Day. More information is available on the NHS Borders website.
Councillor Tom Weatherston, Executive Member for Adult Social Care
“The response to the last event was hugely positive with a good turnout, some delicious food and a lively and relaxed discussion. Having a conversation about mental health issues is not always easy, but the idea of doing so as part of a curry night proved to be extremely successful and I would encourage anyone who is interested to come along.”
