Clients working with our Local Area Co-ordination teams took part in this year’s Big Fit Walk campaign which took place throughout Scotland in June.

Twenty five people from Hawick, Galashiels and the surrounding areas celebrated the benefits of being active by enjoying a 30 minute walk through Wilton Lodge Park.

They were also signposted to other walks and activities in their local area, all designed to:

  • promote involvement in local community
  • increase self-confidence, fitness and wellbeing.

“For anyone of us who were a bit worried about taking part, we were well looked after by the officials and would want to walk it again.’’

Councillor Tom Weatherston, Executive Member for Adult Social Care

“Big Fit Walks are an ideal way for people to get active, be healthy and have fun. Walkers are encouraged to go at their own pace, making the most of the fresh air and the opportunity to spend time with friends, or make new ones.

"I am sure this year’s participants enjoyed the experience tremendously and have hopefully been encouraged to look for other walks in and around their local area to keep up the good work.”
