A big community party to mark the opening of the new children’s play area in Galashiels will be held later this month.
Party in the Park will take place on Saturday 26 May from 11am to 3pm in the Public Park, with plenty of activities, events and stalls for all of the family, while two special guests will open the new play area.
Why is it being held?
The party is being organised by us in partnership with Galashiels Community Council. It will be free for all to attend but those coming along are encouraged to donate to local charities Rowan Boland Memorial Trust and Radio Borders Cash for Kids on the day.
Radio Borders will broadcast from the event and Live Borders will be in attendance with a variety of sports to try. More events and activities will be revealed in the coming weeks.
What facilities will the play park have?
- Contractors HAGS is nearing completion on the £290,000 facility, which will be one of the biggest in the south of Scotland.
- It includes areas for children up to six years of age and for older children, with items of equipment not available elsewhere in Scotland including a special play train.
- The facility will have a wet pour rubber safety surfacing, and specific facilities for children with additional needs, alongside a MUGA play area.
- The park is on the site of the former Public Park play area and will be enclosed by fencing.
Galashiels play park is jointly funded by our play parks budget, Galashiels Pay and Display car parking fund surpluses and a £10,000 grant from Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme.
