People in the Borders still have time to bid for a share of over £200,000 to help their communities as the deadline for the first phase of a new funding scheme draws near.

Applications for our Localities Bid Fund are being welcomed until 3pm on Friday 1 December.

Borderers are being urged to submit their ideas before the deadline, with £208,000 in total available in this first phase.

How it works

The fund is split between five areas:

  • Berwickshire
  • Cheviot
  • Eildon
  • Teviot and Liddesdale
  • Tweeddale

Each one is allocated a certain amount based on its population.

Anyone from the age of 16 and older who lives, works, volunteers or studies in the Borders, as well as community groups, is eligible to apply. The first phase of the fund opened for applications on 15 October.

All bids received for each area will be reviewed by a panel of councillors and key council staff before going to a public vote early next year.

Councillor Sandy Aitchison, Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Locality Services:

“There’s still time to come forward with an idea to improve community life in your area but you need to act fast.

“The Localities Bid Fund is an opportunity for communities to have a real say on how money is spent in their area and what the priorities should be.”
