A brand new playpark in Hawick’s Wilton Lodge Park will open to the public on Friday 17 March.

After being involved in the design of the new facility, three groups of local school pupils will get VIP access on Friday morning to the playpark.

Wilton Lodge play park officially opens

It will be open to the general public from 12noon.

The playpark has been developed as part of the £3.64m Wilton Lodge Park Regeneration Project, funded by ourselves and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The opening of the new facility will enable work to begin on the removal of the old playpark at Volunteer Park.

This will start early next week and, including reinstatement works, will take several weeks to complete. This area will be used to provide additional parking for the park and the nearby 2G and 3G pitches.

Potential temporary Volunteer Park car park closure

Disruption will be kept to a minimum during this period, however there may need to be some short-term closures of the Volunteer Park car park to enable some works to be undertaken.

Comment from our spokesperson

“This destination playpark is one of the largest value items to be delivered as part of the restoration of Wilton Lodge Park and will be a major attraction for Hawick families and visitors from further afield.

“It is great to get the playpark opened to the public ahead of schedule, in advance of the Easter holidays and the start of the wider park event programme. Once the café is completed and a tenant operator in place, the two attractions will help to increase visitor footfall within the park and in Hawick as a whole.

“We are also nearing the completion of the footway/cycleway improvements that will provide a vast improvement for users of the park, while providing an additional attraction to visitors and families.”

Continuing regeneration project work

The remainder of the Heritage Lottery funded works are scheduled to be complete in the summer and an overall opening ceremony encapsulating heritage, sport and culture will celebrate all that has been achieved over the last four years.

New café needs caterers

Caterers interested in operating the new café are invited to an open day on Friday 17 March. Interested parties can drop in anytime between 10am and 3pm. A tender will be issued shortly.
