Our Executive Committee considered a report at its meeting last week and agreed the locations. The 2017 Walking Festival will be held in Peebles between September 3 and 9.

The hosts for future annual Scottish Borders Walking Festival have been confirmed as:

  • 2018 - Hawick
  • 2019 - Ettrick, Yarrow and Selkirk
  • 2020 - Jedburgh and Ancrum

Our Countryside Access Team is tasked with ensuring the festival, which was established in 1995, takes place each year and invites expressions of interest from all the area’s community councils. Six communities responded to the call for hosts for 2018-20.

Walk the walk

The annual event, which is led by the host community, brings significant economic benefits to the Scottish Borders by promoting walking tourism and encouraging visitors to the area from across the UK and Europe.

Find a Scottish Borders walk

To promote year-round walking in the Scottish Borders, we have developed the Walk Scottish Borders website. The website promotes dozens of walks from the Berwickshire coast to the hills in Tweeddale, and everywhere in between. Information can also be found on their Facebook page.

Detailed route maps and instructions can be downloaded for free, including the full ‘Paths Around…” series of booklets. Electronic mapping information for each walk can also be downloaded to be used with GPS devices.

On your bike

The Walk Scottish Borders website is a sister site to the Cycle Scottish Borders website.
