Queen's Platinum Jubilee Fund FAQs

I have an idea for a project or activity, can I apply for funding?

You can apply for funding if:

  • you are a voluntary or community group and have a proposal for an activity or project that will help to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee
  • you are based in the Scottish Borders or your activity will benefit people in the Scottish Borders
  • you have all the required supporting documents, including any relevant permissions
  • the activity is free at the point of use
  • if you are an individual with an idea you could form a group with like-minded people and ask a constituted group to support your application

You cannot apply if:

  • you are an individual, a party political activist, a profit-making organisation, a statutory body or you are aiming to pass the funding on to anyone who is
  • you are applying for retrospective funding or your project is already ongoing
  • you do not have the correct permissions to carry out your project, or if the permissions are pending
  • the activity will charge users at the point of use, or is not inclusive to all people
  • the activity will be serving alcohol or the project is for a licensed serving area

What sort of projects could be funded?

The Queens Platinum Jubilee Fund will enable non-profit making community/voluntary groups, schools and churches within the Scottish Borders whose project or activity is for the benefit of the wider community, to apply for grant funding to take part in celebratory events/community and legacy projects to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend. Examples of community projects could be:

  • garden parties
  • open days
  • concerts
  • tree planting
  • picnics

How do I go about tree planting?

The best time to plant trees is from October to March. If your group would like to get involved in tree planting as a way to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, visit the Queen’s Green Canopy.

How much money can I apply for?

Groups can apply for up to £2.5k for community events and activities.

How long does the process take?

Applications will be assessed and a decision will be made by an officer within our Communities and Partnerships team. Applications will be assessed and a decision will be made whether or not to award the funds within three weeks of receiving an application.

When should I apply?

Applications are now open for the fund and close on 30 April 2022. Download and complete the application form as soon as you have checked that you are eligible and gathered together the evidence, permissions and anything else that you need.

Can I speak to somebody about my application?

You can speak to the Communities and Partnerships Team informally any time about your application:

  • email: communitygrants@scotborders.gov.uk
  • phone: 0300 100 1800

If we need any more information from you we will contact you to avoid your application being delayed.
