South of Scotland Alliance

Who are we?

We are part of a partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council and Scottish Enterprise who seek to raise the profile of the South of Scotland, and the issues faced by our economy.

What do we do?

We support economic growth in the South of Scotland and campaign on issues which are common across both the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway such as:-

  • broadband
  • mobile phone coverage
  • european funding
  • small towns

We hold regular meetings with key members of the Scottish Government to talk about strategic issues facing the economy in the South of Scotland.

South of Scotland Rural Regional Economic Development Programme 2014-16

We have also developed economic projects; the most recent example of this is the South of Scotland Rural Regional Programme which was developed and presented to John Swinney, Member of Scottish Parliament, on 24 June 2014.

The programme includes four strategic projects, which are being taken forward.

These projects are:

  • Borders Railway/Central Borders Business Park
  • Mountain Biking - Refreshing a world class product
  • Strategic Masterplan for the M74 Corridor
  • Stranraer Waterfront

Additionally the programme looks to develop more effective approaches to encourage:

  • innovation
  • internationalisation
  • leadership
