Budget Q and A social media session

Care, support and protection

On 5 October Councillor Frances Renton was live on Facebook and Twitter between 6-7pm for question and answer session relating to our Care, Support and Protection budget. Below are the questions, and answers, that were discussed.

You asked

What support can you give to disabled people?

We said

There is budget available to provide a range of services for people with disabilities here in the Borders. This includes providing accessible adapted housing and appropriate equipment as well as support to ensure people can remain as independent as possible. We also work closely with NHS Borders with a joint budget having been agreed to provide these services for this year.

You asked

How much has Scottish Borders health and social care received from the Scottish government with regards to the rise in the minimum wage and how much of this is going into the learning disability services? Thanks

We said

The NHS and the Council have received £2.5m this year from the Scottish Government to go towards the rise in the living wage. There are ongoing discussions with the learning disability providers to determine how much of this budget is required to support the £8.25 living wage hourly rate from October.

You asked

Many thanks I assumed this being October the sum would have been known by now. Any idea on when these figures will be available?

We said

We anticipate over the next few weeks, and certainly by November
