About Teviot and Liddesdale

Teviot and Liddesdale has the smallest population of the five areas at 17,965. It covers the main towns and villages of:

  • Hawick (14,003)
  • Newcastleton (757)
  • Denholm (625)

These 3 settlements account for 86 per cent of the area’s population. The remaining population lives in smaller settlements such as Teviothead, Minto and Bonchester Bridge or in isolated farmsteads and hamlets. Much of the area covers sparsely inhabited forest and moorland. Hawick is the largest town in Scottish Borders.
