Due to the recent announcements from the Scottish Government on support for businesses, we are not going to issue the rates bills for 2020/21 at this time. This means we will not be seeking payment of Rates instalments due in April 2020 until we receive further guidance. At that time we will then review the position and notify business of the future plans. For now, information and updates are being provided by the Scottish Government.
Extra reliefs to help with COVID-19 in 2020/21
All non-domestic properties in Scotland will get a 1.6 per cent rates relief. This relief effectively reverses the change in poundage for 2020/21.
This relief will be applied automatically to accounts, once the software changes have been made that will allow us to do so.
Relief for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses
Retail, hospitality and leisure businesses will get 100 per cent rates relief. To get this relief, a property has to be have been occupied at 17 March 2020. Properties that closed temporarily due to the Government's COVID-19 advice will be treated as occupied.
This relief will be applied automatically. We are currently working to identify all properties that will be eligible and once the software changes have been made, we will apply the relief.
