Free school meals
Plans have now been finalised for our extended free school meals provision for eligible families during the COVID-19 restrictions.
This means we are now providing deliveries, e-vouchers and additional grocery boxes alongside free meals provided at Childcare Hubs and selected school pick up locations.
Should you have any enquiries please use our Free School Meals online contact form. If you need to change your request, you can do so by completing the form agan.
For families who successfully requested vouchers, two messages are due to be sent on Friday 1 May to the email address they provided with two vouchers.
The two vouchers will be dated 20 April to 3 May and 4-17 May. Both can be used now until 17 May. Families can redeem this voucher to use in store in Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys and Morrisons, or online at Asda.
The value of the voucher will be for £12.50 per child per week and will be paid every two weeks (i.e. £25 per child every two weeks). This is in line with the majority of other Scottish councils who are offering vouchers.
Further information on the use of e-vouchers is available.
Families who requested frozen meals deliveries will continue to receive these deliveries on a Thursday or Friday.
If anyone has any problems with the deliveries, please email [email protected]
Families who have chosen to collect their frozen meals from a Childcare Hub or selected school pick up location can do so on a Thursday.
Top up box of groceries
We expect these top up boxes to be delivered by the end of May.
Daily packed lunch
Families requesting to collect a daily packed lunch can do so immediately from their nearest hub or school pick up location, between 11.30am-1pm each day.
Who is eligible for Free School Meals?
The scheme is aimed at families of children whose household income has been assessed and free school meal award made.
All children in Primary 1 to 3 and children who are accessing extended hours in nursery are provided with a meal when they are in school. This is a universal offering not based on household income and as such, not all pupils in these stages automatically qualify for vouchers.
My family needs some additional support at this challenging time
Any family not eligible for vouchers at this time can still ask for support with access to food through weekly frozen meals deliveries or packed lunch collections. If you would like to receive this support during the COVID-19 restrictions, please complete our online contact form.
However, if you feel you are in fact eligible for the voucher scheme, we ask you to make an application to be awarded free school meals. If you need help to complete the application please phone 0300 100 1800.
If your application is approved, our system will be updated and your request for vouchers will be honoured and backdated to the start of the scheme, which is 20 April 2020.
