The main collection of local studies books and periodicals is available for consultation at library headquarters in Selkirk. This includes the Craig-Brown Collection.

Material on the locality, or written by people with a Scottish Borders connection is purchased if possible. The aim is to gather published information on every aspect of life in the Borders.

To consult items from the main collection it is necessary to make an appointment with Local Studies prior to your visit.

Collections in libraries

Libraries in Galashiels, Hawick, Duns and Jedburgh hold small collections of local newspapers on microfilm. Libraries throughout the Borders have collections of local studies books for loan.

You can request books from the main local studies collection through your local library. Some items are rare and/or fragile and can only be consulted at library headquarters in Selkirk.
