Information for businesses and residents
We are encouraging local businesses to support the Tour Series.
- Open your business and consider offering discounts or promotions on Wednesday 4 May - the town centre will be busy throughout the day.
- Display Tour Series posters on your premises
- Take part in a window display competition with displays in the Tour Series colour themes (red/ white/ blue) and/or cycling theme.
Live Borders, Energise Galashiels, the Chamber of Trade and the Community Council are working together supporting the event and businesses to fully engage with the event.
The highlights of each round of the Tour Series are broadcast on ITV4, providing promotion of tourism in host areas, proving beneficial to the local and the wider economy.
The event can make a real difference, helping to promote the town, showcasing local landmarks as well as encouraging health and wellbeing and community involvement.
Bike decorating competition
Free bikes, provided by Just Cycle, are available, on a first-come-first-served basis, for anyone wishing to take part. These can be collected from the Focus Centre in Galashiels any day before 2pm – simply ask for the Centre caretaker who will be happy to help.
You can use your own of course too.
The competition ends on 29 April when representatives from the Braw Lads' Gathering will judge the best bikes in Bank Street gardens between 7 and 8pm.
The winning bikes will then be displayed throughout the town for the duration of the Tour Series. The winners will also receive gift vouchers and a goody bag.
Window dressing competition
To take part, all you have to do is:
- Decorate a window at your business premises based on a cycling theme
- Email the organisers at firstname.lastname@example.org by 12noon on Monday 2 May to let say that you are taking part
- Have your window ready for judging by 5.30pm on Monday 2 May
- Keep your window dressed until Thursday 5 May
The windows will be judged by this year's Braw Lad and Lass, with the winner to be announced during the Tour Series event. The prize is £250 worth of advertising with Radio Borders.
If businesses are expecting any deliveries during these times, please email email@example.com with an idea of the time expected, area for unloading and duration of deliveries to enable arrangements to be put in place.
Any residents expecting deliveries during the closure times are asked to make alternative arrangements.
Waste and recycling collections
Due to the road closures in Paton Street, Bank Street, Albert Place and parts of Market Street residents and businesses in this areas are asked not to present their bins on Wednesday 4 May as there will be no refuse collection taking place on this day. Any bins left out may cause an obstruction to the event attendees.
Your refuse collection has been amended for that week to Thursday 5 May. Please present your bin before 7am on this day and we will aim to collect the general waste as soon as possible.
Please note that this is a one-off collection day change to your refuse collection schedule due to the Tour Series taking place. All future collections will be as per your normal collection day calendar schedule following this event.
A letter has been sent out to all households affected by these changes.
