Towns and Villages

The Scottish Borders is unusual in that there is not principal regional centre. Instead there are a number of market towns and villages scattered throughout the region.

The links below provide a variety of information on Borders' settlements.  This ranges from guides to town trails and from statistical information to local town web sites:

Small Towns Group

The Small Towns Group was established in 2005 following a conference held in 2004 by the South of Scotland Alliance on 'Small Towns under Threat'. The Group is open to any local authority which has responsibility for a small town in its area, has regular attendance by 20 local authorities from across Scotland and is supported by COSLA.

Listed below are some STG publications but for further information please visit the Small Towns Group section of this website.
