Holiday Programmes
Sport is playing an increasing role in improving the quality of life and people now have a higher expectation from sport than ever before. They therefore require quality opportunities and choices to enable them to enjoy and participate in activities. These activities can contribute to their physical, emotional and social well-being.
Scottish Borders Council's Sport Development & Active Schools staff work together to produce opportunities for youngster to take part in a variety of sports and physical activity during the school holidays. This year Scottish Borders Council has seen great success from the Easter and Summer programmes.

Easter holiday sports break all-time records
A record number of youngsters took part in this year’s Easter Holiday Sports and Physical Activities which came to a close last week. Over 1200 youngsters signed up for the many activities on offer during the past two weeks from SBC’s Active Schools and Sports Development teams. Football once again proved to be very popular with a record 500 youngsters taking part in the SFA courses and the new Street Football sessions. Five extra mountain biking courses were added to the programme to meet the high demand and other popular choices included Cheerleading, Surfing, Kidz Club and Disability Festivals. Summer Sports 2008
From the 27th of June to the 15th of August, the Sports and Physical Activities Team looked to repeat the successes of their
earlier previous programmes.
Activities ranged from athletics to watersports, hosted at venues all across the region: download our brochure for full details.
This year’s programme offered a balanced and cost effective range of sports and activities for youngsters.
All of the staff are qualified and selected for their experience and enthusiasm when interacting with young people. The sessions focussed on learning new skills, trying new sports and of course having a great time.
