Scenic Driving Route - North Borders

This scenic drive starts in Galashiels where you take the A7 out of the town centre south (towards Hawick). When you get to the roundabout, where the A7 meets the A6091 (Melrose bypass), turn on to the A6091 and follow that until you reach the roundabout with the A68.

At the A68 turn right (south, towards Jedburgh). When you get to St Boswells village, turn left onto the B6404. Travel through the village and after about 1.8 miles turn left onto the B6356, another 1.8 miles later there’s an unclassified road on the left that leads to the historic Dryburgh Abbey and the luxurious Dryburgh Abbey Hotel.

When you leave Dryburgh Abbey continue along the B6356 to Scott’s View then on to Earlston. When you reach Earlston, turn left through the village and follow the A6105 to the A68 where you turn right (north, towards Edinburgh).

Follow the A68 for 16 miles (passing through Lauder on the way) then turn left onto the B6368 through Gilston to the A7. When you get to the A7 turn right for a short distance of 2 miles then turn left onto the B709 to Innerleithen.

When you get to Innerleithen you can either carry on west (on the A702) to Peebles or turn back to Galashiels.

As a guide, this route is about 80 miles long and should have a driving time of about 3 hours (excluding stops).

Please note that some of this scenic drive follows narrow, winding country roads and appropriate caution should be exercised whilst driving.

You can see the route on Google Maps and some of the views you can expect to see can be found in Panaramio.
