Scottish Borders Economy
The Scottish Borders economy has had to deal with a number of issues in the last few years:
- The decline of the textile industry
- The collapse of the electronics sector
- Foot and Mouth Disease crisis and impact on tourism
- Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy
- Changing demands on the fishing industry.
However, there has also been a number of promising new developments:
- A re-focused textile industry and niche marketing in the cashmere industry
- Successful promotion of the area as Scotland’s leading short break destination (external website)
- New Ways partners working with European funds to regenerate the Scottish Borders.
