Charity scheme launched
Children at schools across the Scottish Borders are taking part in a new initiative to help provide nutritious meals for fellow youngsters in Malawi.
We have signed up to a scheme organised by Scottish charity Mary's Meals.
It sees 3p from every lunchtime meal purchased at every local school donated to the charity - on three separate days per school year.
Money raised will go towards providing meals for children at two schools in Chizungulire and Likole.
Parents are being asked to consider donating an additional 3p on these days. Collection boxes for the project will also be available for pupils to donate throughout the year.
The project was launched at a Burns lunch at Chirnside Primary School, where pupils read poems, performed music and enjoyed haggis, neeps and tatties.
