The Borders is affected by heavy snow and icy conditions.

Weather

The Borders has had significant snow fall with up wards of 6-8 inches of snow in the west of the region (from Galashiels towards Peebles).  Towards the east (Berwickshire) has had little snow cover.

Roads and Travel

Drivers should take care when travelling and drive according to the conditions.

Latest update:

  • All main routes are open
  • Gritting crews moved onto secondary routes this afternoon
  • Teams have been working to clear footpaths and car park areas around town centres and some villages
  • Tonight, crews will be pre-salting first priority routes at 4pm
  • Tomorrow (Saturday 17 December), teams will be checking first priority routes and footpaths at 6am.
