  Unsightly and potentially dangerous, abandoned cars are a blot on any rural or urban landscape. But now Scottish Borders Council is launching a new service to remove unwanted vehicles free of charge before they are dumped.

  Scottish Borders Council has been awarded £28,000 by the Scottish Executive under the Biodiversity Action Grant Scheme for the Borders Wetlands Vision project, a strategic approach to wetland conservation in the area and a first for Scotland.

  The Council has authorised plans to undertake statutory consultations on the provision of 4 new schools in Caddonfoot, Earlston, Peebles. Consultations will also explore the future of Channelkirk Primary School and for new high schools on new sites in Earlston and Eyemouth.

• Free guides to improve toilets for disabled people - Tuesday, Aug 2 2005
  Isobel McLeish has had multiple sclerosis for 15 years and has been a wheelchair user for most of this time. Like the vast majority of wheelchair users, she has found that her ability to go out and socialise has been made more difficult by the lack of suitably designed toilets.
• The Shieling Nursing Home to close - Tuesday, Aug 2 2005
  The Shieling Nursing Home at Coldingham Bay, near Eyemouth, is to close over the next three months, due to a recent decline in the number of residents.
