  • Local libraries participate in LGBT history month - Monday, Jan 29 2007
    The month of February has been designated LGBT History Month in the UK. It is an opportunity to celebrate the lives of people throughout history who today might identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. February provides groups, organisations and individuals with the opportunity to explore these hidden histories.
  • Don’t miss out on warmer deal on heating - Monday, Jan 29 2007
    Elderly people without central heating are being urged to find out if they are eligible for the Scottish Executive’s extended Central Heating Programme and Warm Deal Grant.
  • The best Budget ever for the Scottish Borders. - Monday, Jan 29 2007
    At a media briefing this morning (Monday 29 January), Councillors outlined their plans for what they believe to be the best budget ever in the history of the Council. Councillor David Parker, Leader of the Council, and Finance Spokesman, Councillor Neil Calvert, explained the proposals which will see the lowest ever increase in Council Tax and the highest ever spend on services.
  • Completion of Melrose one-way scheme - Wednesday, Jan 24 2007
    Scottish Borders Council will start work to formalise the Melrose one-way system today. The works will entail major improvements to the layout in Market Square and the completion of the existing temporary layouts in High Street, Buccleuch Street and Abbey Street.

    Councillors at Scottish Borders Council have agreed to provide top up funding of up to £350,000 from Council Tax income towards the provision of 20 new build houses in the Hartrigge area of Jedburgh.

    Scottish Borders Council project worker, Phoebe Lowe of Innerleithen, who is studying for her M.Litt (Masters in Museum and Gallery Studies) at St Andrews University has been given the opportunity to curate her first exhibition entitled ‘Design for Living’ which opens in the Tower Foyer Gallery at University of Dundee on Friday, 19th January 2007.

    Scottish Borders Council Convener Alasdair Hutton will launch the CSV Action Earth 2007 Campaign at the Thistle Foundation Community Wildlife Garden at Craigmillar in Edinburgh with Deputy Minister for Communities, Des McNulty MSP.

  • Borders Lotto Success Reaches 1000 Projects - Thursday, Jan 11 2007
    December, 2006 saw the figures for successful Borders lottery applications break the 1000 project mark. Some 1020 lottery funded projects have been delivered in the Scottish Borders totalling £30.6 million - this is more that £280 per person living in the Borders.

    School children between the ages of 4 and 12 can attend the breakfast club at Wilton primary school, Hawick.
  • Peebles school designs unveiled - Tuesday, Jan 9 2007
    On Saturday 13th January SBC's Education Department are holding an event for members of the Peebles community to view and comment upon the latest designs for the proposed school at Neidpath Grazings. Everyone is welcome and the Council is hoping that parents and the community will take the opportunity to attend.
