Sticker competition prizes remain unclaimed

Wednesday, October 26 2005

Two top prizes are still waiting to be claimed in the Soft Drink and Drive car sticker competition run over the past 10 weeks by the Scottish Borders Joint Community Safety Panel and Radio Borders.

The unclaimed prizes are a day pass to Stobo Castle near Peebles, and a sitting portrait by Parris Photography, Hawick, Scottish Photographer of the Year 2005.

The vehicle registration numbers of the remaining winners are:

P437 DHH - spotted 14 October
Y423 HWA - spotted 21 October

If you are the owner of either of these vehicles (or if you know who may be), please contact Steven Irvine, SBC Community Safety Officer (Tel: 01835 825058) or Radio Borders (01896 759444).

To take part in the Soft Drink and Drive car sticker competition, motorists were asked to display Soft Drink when Driving stickers on their vehicles. The free stickers were available at petrol stations, garages, supermarkets and from council offices across the Borders. To win a prize, your car sticker had to be spotted by a sticker spotter from Radio Borders and your registration read out on air.

The sticker competition followed the April launch of a Soft Drink and Drive publicity campaign by the Scottish Borders Community Forum and the Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT). The campaign aims to combat the Borders' persistent drink driving problem by enforcing the message that the only truly safe option is to drink no alcohol at all before driving.

Scottish Borders Council's Community Safety Officer, Steven Irvine, who is leading the campaign, said, "Despite a region-wide Soft Drink and Drive publicity campaign launched in early April, a worrying number of motorists are continuing to ignore the safety messages and drive while over the legal alcohol limit."

Any organisation wishing to become involved in the Soft Drink and Drive campaign should contact Steven Irvine, Scottish Borders Community Safety Officer. Tel: 01835 825058.
