Autumn workshops for sports coaches
Friday, August 12 2005
Scottish Borders Council has planned an exciting programme of courses for local sports coaches throughout the autumn period.
Rick Kenney, SBC's Coaching Network Development Officer, said, "There has been a demand for First Aid courses which are specifically aimed at sports injuries. Two of these courses will be held at the Gytes Leisure Centre in Peebles on 18 September and 23 October."
Child protection in sport is a crucial subject for sports coaches, and to help them keep up to date on it, two courses called 'Good Practice and Child Protection' are being delivered on 7 September at Hawick Town Hall and on 30 October at Kelso High School.
A range of courses is being offered, some (Coaching Essentials) are for the less experienced coach, and others (Develop Your Coaching) for the more experienced. These workshops offer guidance on a range of topics, common to coaching across most sports, which includes 'Motivation and Mental Toughness'; Power and Speed Development and Diet and Nutrition.
In order to help promote good practice in the running of local sports clubs, a workshop is being offered to give practical help on "Funding and Promoting your Club", which will assist clubs in getting more members, a higher profile and will identify some possible sources of funding.
Each course and workshop costs £20. Applications should be made to:
