The Shieling Nursing Home to close
Tuesday, August 2 2005
The Shieling Nursing Home at Coldingham Bay, near Eyemouth, is to close over the next three months, due to a recent decline in the number of residents.
Intensacare, the home's proprietor, has been working closely with Scottish Borders Council, residents and families to ensure appropriate arrangements are made for the continuing care of the remaining 11 residents.
All residents and their relatives will be supported by SBC social workers to identify an alternative care home of choice that will be appropriate to their needs. This will include the option of moving to Borders Nursing Home at Ayton, another Intensacare home in the area, enabling continuity of relationships.
The home is well regarded locally, but declining numbers of residents in recent times has led to increasing uncertainty. Intensacare did have exploratory discussions with the Council regarding potential future demand, but ultimately saw the closure as inevitable.
Intensacare has informed the Care Commission, which regulates care home provision, and is working towards a planned three-month closure programme.
