Splash out for free this Christmas
Thursday, December 23 2004
In a seasonal remedy for over-eating and staying cooped up indoors during the Christmas holidays, free swimming sessions will be on offer to all secondary school pupils around the Borders in December.
Under the Dialogue Youth initiative, all secondary pupils in the region have been issued with Young Scot cards, which will admit them to free swimming sessions. The sessions are available at five of the Borders Sport and Leisure Trust swimming pools across the region, and at Duns pool, giving something to suit everyone.
Free swimming for secondary pupils will take place at the following venues and times:
Weekdays, 27th to 31st December:
Teviotdale Leisure Centre 10am to 4pm
Peebles Swimming Pool 10am to 12 noon, 1pm to 3pm
Kelso Swimming Pool 10:30am to 12 noon, 1:30pm to 3:30pm
Selkirk Swimming Pool 11am to 12 noon, 1pm to 3pm
Galashiels Swimming Pool 10am to 12 noon, 13:30pm to 3pm
Each Sunday in December:
Selkirk, TLC and Galashiels 12 noon to 1pm
Kelso and Peebles 1pm to 2pm
Duns 6pm to 8pm
Dialogue Young is a national initiative to modernise services to young people. In the Borders it works as a partnership between Scottish Borders Council, the voluntary youth work sector and public sector agencies.
Councillor Val Robson, Portfolio Holder for Education and Lifelong Learning, said, "By offering free swimming, we are giving young people the opportunity to keep fit and healthy by taking part in something they enjoy. I am delighted that the joined-up approach to providing services for young people is resulting in excellent opportunities such as this."
