Members of the public view plans for new service
Tuesday, February 2 2010
An open meeting was held last week for local residents to view plans for a new housing and care development in Peebles.
People living near the development at Dovecot Road, as well as relatives, partners and friends of people who are likely to use the new service, were able to find out more about extra care housing and put their questions to representatives from Eildon Housing Association and Scottish Borders Council.
The new development will comprise 37 self-contained flats specially designed to support older people in living as independently as possible. Each flat will have two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and bathroom with easy-access shower. It is anticipated that the new development will open in the summer of 2012.
This new facility will replace Dunwhinny Lodge, the Council’s care home in Peebles. All of the current residents in Dunwhinny Lodge will have the opportunity to move into to the new extra care housing development. Staff members will also transfer to the new facility, providing 24 hour care and support to residents.
Representatives from Margaret Blackwood Housing Association were also present to answer questions on the proposed redevelopment of Tweedbridge Court, a holiday and short breaks facility for people with disabilities.
Anyone wanting to view the plans or to find out more about the facility at Dovecot Road should contact Elaine Torrance, Head of Social Care and Health, Scottish Borders Council or Jane Robertson, Project Manager, Scottish Borders Council on 01835 825080.
