More time to visit Melrose library
Wednesday, July 1 2009
Library users will be able to visit Melrose public library every weekday from Monday 6 July.
Since its refurbishment four years ago, the library has experienced a steady rise in members. As a result, Scottish Borders Council’s (SBC) Library and Information Services has made the decision to open the library every weekday for a trial period until the end of March 2010.
The new opening times are:
- Monday 10am-1pm, 2:30pm-5pm
- Tuesday 2.30pm-5pm, 6pm-8pm
- Wednesday 10am-1pm, 2:30pm-5pm
- Thursday 2:30pm-5pm, 6pm-8pm
- Friday 2:30pm-5pm
Executive Member for Culture, Sport and Community Learning, Councillor Graham Garvie, hopes library-goers will be pleased with the news.
He said: “Melrose library is a well-used and loved facility in the town and I am delighted that we have responded to the increase in local demand by opening for longer during the week. While the new hours remove the later Friday opening - it now means that the library is open every weekday, including Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as having two late night openings up to 8pm, which is an hour later than any other of our libraries.
“A review will be conducted during the trial period to find out how people have responded to the developments. If we find the increased hours enable more people to use the library, we will definitely consider making it a permanent arrangement.”
