Building a Successful Borders – new Council priorities announced
Tuesday, June 23 2009
Following the success of ‘A Bright Future for the Borders’, Scottish Borders Council’s (SBC) Administration is preparing to launch its new manifesto at the Council meeting on Thursday.
‘Building a Successful Borders’ is the document which sets out the Administration’s new priorities from now until 2012.
A report to Council on Thursday will show the progress made on meeting the Administration’s ‘Bright Futures’ targets and will set out a new programme of work into the future to continue the positive steps already made.
Councillor Carolyn Riddell-Carre said: In these difficult economic times, it is important that we get our priorities right, and I am confident we have done this.
“We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for everyone across the whole of the Borders and to encouraging people to live, work and visit here. The Borders is a wonderful area with a lot to offer and we want to make sure that our Borders is preserved and improved for future generations to enjoy. This is not just a set of priorities for the Administration – it is a set of priorities that everyone in the Borders can work towards.”
Councillor Alec Nicol said: “Our original manifesto was very well received and we have achieved much of what we set out to do to improve life for everyone in the Borders.
“The new ‘Building a Successful Borders’ document sets out in black and white what we want to take forward from now until 2012, building on what we have already achieved.
“Our aims cover everything important for people in the Borders, from education and health to community safety and affordable housing.”
Councillor Michael Cook said: “This new set of priorities focuses very much on enhancing the reputation of the Council as an ambitious, efficient and well-run local authority. We will continue the work to deliver our services more efficiently.
“Our priorities have been formed by local councillors listening hard to the views of the Borders people – so we are confident that our new plans are what people want to see happening. Our communities will be strengthened to provide jobs and prosperity for the Borders.”
