Chief Executive launches ‘Dispatches’, a new monthly blog
Friday, May 22 2009
This week, Council staff and Elected Members will get an in-depth insight into the role of their Chief Executive thanks to a new ‘blog’. The blog, ‘Dispatches’, will be launched today (Friday 22 May 2009).
Not only will they be able to see what major events and meetings David will be attending but they can look forward to his personal thoughts on what happens at those meetings, and a run-down of the issues affecting Borders Council on at least a monthly basis. They will also be able to contact David directly with any comments on the blog items.
David said: “Scottish Borders Council is a very busy place and, like everybody else, my diary is usually pretty full and my time totally committed.
“In the midst of all that, though, I know that people want to have a sense of what I am doing and also to hear about the issues that are flying across my desk. I think that’s fair and reasonable and I reckon that people should know how I spend my time.”
David said: “The blog will contain highlights from my diary, a brief summary of important issues and any other information affecting the Council or local government in general. It is important to keep people informed about what I’m doing. It is also important not to take up too much of their time so the blog will be short and to the point. It will cover the main issues I’m dealing with. I hope as many people as possible will read it.
“I will be asking for feedback so that the blog can be developed over the coming months into a format that people find most useful and interesting.”
The first issue of the blog contains David’s thoughts on the Directors of Social Work in Scotland Conference – where one of the key speakers was Alastair Campbell, who talked about communicating effectively with the media. SBC’s work towards developing an integrated children’s service across social work and education also came in for praise at the conference. David also talks about a conference for Council managers and a forthcoming Audit Scotland inspection of Best Value arrangements at several Councils in Scotland, including SBC.
