Non Roman Catholic to lead two RC primary schools in the Borders
Friday, June 27 2008
In what is believed to be a first in Scotland, a non Roman Catholic teacher has been appointed to lead two RC primary schools in the Borders.
Morag McCreadie, age 37, has been appointed as the ‘Manager of Learning’ for St Margaret’s RC in Hawick and St Joseph’s RC in Selkirk. This appointment has been warmly endorsed by the leader of the Roman Catholic Church in Scotland, Cardinal Keith O’Brien on a visit to the Borders last week. For all who participated in the recruitment process: parents, the church and the authority - Morag was undoubtedly the best candidate to lead both schools. Her strength of character, personal faith and strong values provided a framework that enabled her teaching and leadership attributes to shine through.
Morag joined SBC as a teacher at Wilton Primary School, Hawick in 1992 after qualifying as a teacher at Craigie College of Education in Ayr, affiliated to Strathclyde University. Currently depute headteacher at Drumlanrig PC in Hawick, she has been working closely with both St Margaret’s and St Joseph’s schools since February and has already in this short time become highly respected by the church and school communities.
A gifted musician, Morag studied in her spare time for the Scottish Qualification for Headship examination, which she passed in September 2006. Speaking about the appointment, Morag said: “I will enjoy the summer with my family and prepare for the exciting challenges ahead.”
