Follow up HMIE Inspection at Kingsland Primary School in Peebles
Monday, June 16 2008
Following an inspection by HM Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) in June 2006, inspectors recently re-visited Kingsland Primary School Peebles to look at the progress made by the school since then in addressing the recommendations.
The inspection team reported that, under the very effective leadership of the headteacher Jacqueline Wilson, significant progress had been made towards addressing the main points for action including partnership with parents and the leadership of the school.
In addition, it commented on improvements in a range of other areas including attainment in English language and the use of information technology. Staff demonstrated a strong commitment to and capacity for continuous improvement.
Chair of the Parent Council, Mr David Laurenson said: "I am absolutely delighted that the hard work and professionalism of all of the staff at Kingsland has been recognised in this excellent inspection report. It is a true reflection of the high standard of education that our children are receiving in this school."
Jacqueline Wilson added: “The report reflects and acknowledges the hard work by everyone involved with Kingsland. We are delighted with the report and all that it contains.”
The inspection team noted that, while limited progress had been made in addressing improvement in accommodation, plans for a new school were well underway. The work of the P4-7 pupil council was commended. The pupils had been involved in working with Peebles High School in addressing vandalism in the playground.
